We cannot do it alone and will only succeed withsouth eastern health board the help of partners such as Digicel. This donation will go a r way in assisting many of our children and their milies who have been waiting for cardiac care. The $100-million cheque was handed over to Health Minister Rudyard Spencer and Lyttleton Shirely, chairman of the board of the South East Regional Health Authority, during the companys 10th anniversary live television show on Tuesday night.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS company Digicel has put up $100 million for the construction of a new Paediatric Cardiac Centre of Excellence at he Bustamante Hospital for Children.

At present, the waiting list at the hospital is at least 150, with approximately 100 new patients added to the list each year.

According to data from the childrens hospital, of the 400-500 children who are born with congenital heart disease in Jamaica each year, at least half of them will need medical or surgical intervention or will ce premature death.
