ECape Health dept set for revamp/dept of heal,, health MEC Phumulo Masualle said on Tuesday.

He was speaking to hospital board members and management at Mjanyana Hospital in Engcobo, as part of a series of visits to institutions across the province.

There were currently too many managers sitting in Bhisho, instead of where they were needed most, he said.

The review of the department might see some of these posts being allocated to tertiary hospitals, or to district offices that dealt mostly with primary health care.

Masualle said the department also had to give attention to appropriate placement of staff.

Masualle said that over the years dept of health eastern capethe department had been devoting so many resources to trying to achieve a clean audit that it had neglected its core business, service delivery.

The Eastern Cape health department is to be reshaped with a leaner bureaucracy and more service delivery at ground level.

The department has placed a moratorium on recruitment of new administrative staff, but is still hiring doctors and nurses.

People put in charge of hospitals should have the right qualifications.
